Hennessey Performance YouTube channel just released a fantastic new video demonstrating a drag race between the 2017 Camaro ZL1 and the Dodge Challenger Hellcat. The things get brutal in this one. Like really, really intense. Instead of racing two stock units (which they’ve done before), Hennessey upgraded the Camaro ZL1 with a special 750hp tune up. In this case, the Camaro ZL1 received a pulley upgrade, a high-flow air induction system, as well as an exhaust setup featuring a long-tube stainless steel headers, stainless steel midpipes, and high-flow catalytic converters. The thing about the race is simple. It all starts with a rolling start drag race. Both muscle cars launch in second gear and then accelerate to 130 mph. Who reaches the speed trap first wins. And yes, the Hennessey Performance promised a rematch, but with a tuned up Challenger Hellcat. Expect an 850hp car capable of really amazing stuff. Of course, in the case of this Camaro ZL1 Hennessey upped it too with an ECU upgrade. Remember, these cars have so much torque and power that racing them from the start with stock tires could be pretty challenging. Of course, rolling start is a bit more up to the task. Nevertheless, we cannot wait for the other race with 850hp Hellcat.
